Brief To present an eclectic compendium of 50 pioneering home, fashion and technology products to celebrate John Lewis’ 150 years on the British high street
Solution Groundbreaking innovation applied to everyday products has the power to make life not only easier, but also more enjoyable. To celebrate this, John Lewis collaborated with London’s Design Museum to pull together a collection of 50 products that demonstrate excellence in design and innovation – from Dyson’s cyclone vacuum cleaner to the humble sewing pattern. Our miniature coffee-table book, Design Today, tells the stories of these diverse products through the words of the globally influential designers who chose them. Clean cut-out shots sit alongside beautifully styled still-life photography by Andy Barter, whose graphic style emphasises the aesthetics of each product’s design – whether it’s a classic Hans J Wegner chair or a simple LEGO brick. And, as well as being used in the print piece, these iconic images proudly populated John Lewis shop windows and formed part of a major online campaign, celebrating and raising awareness of how the John Lewis brand continues to support cutting-edge product design.
Design Today was nominated for Best Brochure/Catalogue at the Content Marketing Awards 2014
